NorthWrite is chosen by the State of Idaho to provide its Energy Expert software to track energy use and savings for its 700 building K-12 School Energy Efficiency Project
NorthWrite and its reseller partner, Smart Buildings, Inc., today announced that they have been selected by the State of Idaho’s Office of Energy Resources to provide NorthWrite’s unique wireless monitoring and web-based Energy Expert software services to support the state’s K-12 School Efficiency Program. The Idaho project is providing HVAC tune-ups and select retrofits for each of the 700 K-12 classroom buildings in Idaho. With approximately 5 million dollars for tune-ups, and 9 million for retrofits, the project's number one goal is to save school district's 10 to 20 percent on their utility bills. The project is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) State Energy Program (SEP).
“The Energy Expert technology is ideal for this program. It will enable the state to track real-time energy savings in each of the schools. This helps school facility staff immediately identify the impact of the tune-ups and retrofits, spot unexpected energy consumption as it occurs and ensure these program savings persist for the long term,” said Patrick O’Neill, Chief Executive Officer, NorthWrite. “This sophisticated software application trains itself to create a “smart model” of a building and compares daily energy consumption against this norm. The Energy Expert then identifies if the facility over-consumed; under-consumed or used about the “right amount” of energy through a convenient email notification.”
The system being deployed by the State of Idaho also uses NorthWrite’s unique wireless monitoring hardware to efficiently track energy consumption across a geographically diverse portfolio of buildings. In addition to Energy Expert software, Energy Kiosk LCD displays will be installed in public areas in select schools to provide real-time energy use and savings information to the students, faculty, and parents. Publicly displaying a school’s energy savings progress will promote increased awareness of energy savings opportunities and promote a “friendly” competition among the schools in a district.
